Barking up the wrong tree

Skye At The Top of Her Cage

Skye At The Top of Her Cage

Skye has been on a bit of a hunger strike lately since we have been keeping her away from Sully. Well she started eating again but it is still on her own terms.

Yesterday she went to the base of one of the plants in her cage and waited for me to feed her. So today I put the food cup in the same spot and went back to look at her to make sure she was eating.

Well wouldn’t you know she was at the bottom of the other tree waiting for her food, so of course I moved it to the other tree and she ate right away.

You know before we got reptiles I never would have guessed how picky they can be. I always figured they would just eat anything but man can they be picky.

Panther Chameleon Eye

Sully the Nosy Be Panther Chameleon's Eye

Sully the Nosy Be Panther Chameleon

Jeff was messing around and made Sully mad a couple of weeks ago, and he ended up taking this picture.

I love the close up of the eye.

It’s amazing how the chameleons can move their eyes around – it can be scary the first time you see one wash it’s eye, because it looks like it’s eye disappears – instead of sticking out it’s just gone.

Even though I was knew that’s what happened when they washed their eyes, I was a little scared at first.

Reading something and seeing it are two different things.

They say that the bad thing about chameleons is that they are most beautiful when they are mad.

See the red on Sully’s eye?

We don’t see that often, so it’s kind of neat to see him when he does get mad and get red.

Panther Chameleons Teeth

Ever wondered if chameleons have teeth?

They do.

Jeff got Sully mad about something, and took these pictures.

I have to admit that Sully did bite me once, and although it didn’t hurt, hurt, I could still kind of feel it a few days later.

I’m not sure how to explain it, but I would definitely try to avoid the teeth if I was you.

Sully’s all wet

Chameleons normally don’t drink from still water – so you have to mist them several times a day to make sure they stay hydrated.

When we mist the chameleons sometimes they get mad and puff up, but sometimes they’ll sit there with their mouth open, and just let us spray water in their mouths.

Skye likes to drink from the corner of her cage, so we’ll spray the corner, and she’ll crawl up her branch until she’s close enough so that she can drink comfortably.

The chameleons will also lap up drops of water from the leaves in the cage.

It’s so neat to see their big tongues lapping up the drop of water.

Here’s Sully giving us the evil eye after he was misted last week.

Panther Chameleon Eating

Posted by Sarah on October 15, 2008

Skye has been eating out of the feeding cup lately, so we figured we’d try to catch her in action.

Jeff held the cup, I took pictures, and it didn’t work, so Jeff got one of the crickets to crawl up the vine towards Skye.

Sorry the picture is a little fuzzy.
